Employment Connections

Fewer candidates. Better conversations.

An employer hiring freshers usually faces a pile of applications from people who barely read the posting. Employer Conversations works the other way round: we check the role, describe it plainly, help the people who opt in to prepare, and the employer meets a small group who are ready to talk about that job. The employer makes every hiring decision.

Both sides are drowning in noise.

Employers who post an entry-level role often receive far more applications than they can read, many from people who would not take the job once they understood it. Job seekers, meanwhile, send applications into silence and cannot tell which listings are real.

A short conversation before applications changes that. Candidates hear what the work actually involves and decide whether they want it. The employer meets people who have already chosen the role, and spends their time on a smaller number of better conversations.

How a conversation is set up

26 topics across 6 areas. Six steps, each agreed with the employer.

Our Call With the EmployerBefore anything is shared with anyone.5
  • Confirming the organisation and the person hiring
  • The role, its location and its hours
  • The pay range, where the employer is willing to share it
  • The selection steps and the timeline
  • Confirming that no fee or deposit is asked of candidates

Roles that ask applicants to pay anything are not passed on.

Describing the Role PlainlyWhat a candidate needs to decide whether to apply.5
  • What the work is, day to day
  • Who the person would work with
  • Training in the first months
  • The hard parts of the job, stated honestly
  • What the employer can and cannot offer
Who AttendsPeople who chose the role, not a crowd.4
  • Job seekers who have taken part in GullyFuture sessions
  • Students from a partner college, where the role suits them
  • Only those who opted in after reading the description
  • Usually after preparing for this specific opening
The Conversation ItselfHonest on both sides.4
  • The employer describes the role and the team
  • Candidates ask their questions
  • Short individual conversations, if the employer wants them
  • No pressure on anyone to apply or decide on the day
AfterwardsNobody should be left wondering.4
  • Candidates who want to apply do so, with consent to share their details
  • The employer decides who goes forward
  • Candidates are told the outcome either way
  • Feedback is shared where the employer is willing to give it
The Ground RulesWhat every employer agrees to.4
  • No fees, deposits or paid training asked of candidates
  • No selling of courses or services
  • Candidates' details used only for this role
  • A response to every candidate who applies

What we ask the employer

  • The organisation's name, address and contact person
  • The role, location, hours and start date
  • A pay range, if you can share one
  • The selection steps and how long they take
  • How many people you are hoping to hire

What candidates are told

  • The role, described plainly
  • That applying is free, at every stage
  • That the employer makes every hiring decision
  • That nobody is promised an interview or a job
  • How their details will be used

How a conversation runs

The employer tells us about the role through the employers page, and a person from GullyFuture calls to understand it before anything is shared. We describe the role to the people we work with, help those who opt in to prepare, and arrange a conversation of an hour or so, in person or online, with a small group. Applications go to the employer only with each candidate's consent. There is no charge to employers or candidates.

What your students leave with

  • Candidates who chose the role after reading what it involves
  • Candidates who have prepared for this employer specifically
  • A conversation where both sides can ask real questions
  • Applications passed on only with each candidate's consent
  • No charge to the employer or the candidates

Scheduled sessions

Nothing scheduled yet

Sessions are arranged with a college once a date is agreed. Ask us and we will find the right person for it.

A student rather than a college? See what is coming up, or ask your placement team to host this.

Fewer, better introductions.

Tell us who your students are and what stage they are at. Sessions are free for participants.
