About

A neighbourhood helping itself forward

GullyFuture is an initiative of Gully Future Foundation in Bengaluru. It exists because the difference between the people who get somewhere and the people who do not is usually not ability. It is who they happened to know.

Why this exists

A student in a government PU college and a student in an expensive private one can be equally capable and end up in very different places. What separates them is rarely the syllabus. It is that one of them has an uncle who works in a company and can explain what an interview is, and the other does not.

That gap is not solved by more content. There is more free material online than anyone could work through. It is solved by access to people — somebody who has done the thing, in a room, answering the question you were embarrassed to ask.

So that is what we organise. Sessions where people who do the work explain it to people who have not seen it up close, and then answer questions until the questions run out. Everything else on this site exists to make that happen more often.

How it works

We run sessions across three areas — education, careers and entrepreneurship — with schools, colleges, companies and business associations across Bengaluru. Speakers and mentors give their time. Institutions provide the room. Participants pay nothing.

At the end of every session we ask the same question: is there something you could contribute? Most of the people on our speaker list answered yes to that question once, having arrived as a participant. That cycle is the whole design.

How we work

What we will and will not do

These are the rules we hold to. They cost us speakers occasionally, which is how you know they are real.

Free for the people who need it

Sessions cost participants nothing. Not a discounted rate, not a scholarship you have to apply for — nothing.

Nobody is selling anything

A session is not a pitch. Speakers agree to this before they stand up, and we would rather lose a speaker than break it.

Specific beats inspirational

Nobody needs another talk about following your passion. They need to know what the work is like on a Tuesday.

We count what we did, honestly

Every figure on this site comes from a completed session. If we have not done it, it is not on the page.

Participants become contributors

The cycle is the point. Most of our speakers were in the audience first, and we ask everybody at the end of a session what they could give.

The questions matter more than the talk

We build sessions so the Q&A gets the time. That is where the useful part almost always happens.

This works because people show up

Come to a session, give an hour, or open your institution to it. All three are useful and none of them is difficult.
