Job Readiness Programme

Students usually meet employers across an interview table. This is the conversation before that.

Most students know employers only as logos on a placement notice. In this session people who hire freshers — HR professionals, hiring managers and owners of smaller businesses — explain what the job is, how they choose, and what makes them say no. If they have genuine openings, they may share them; we check those first, and nobody pays to apply.

Students prepare for employers they have never spoken to.

Students apply to roles they understand from a job title and a salary rumour. They rarely hear an employer explain, in plain terms, what the first year in a role involves, what the interview is testing, and why most applications are rejected.

This session is not a recruitment drive. Employers come to explain, and students come to ask. Where an employer also has a genuine vacancy, it can be shared — but the session is useful to every student in the room, not only the few who might apply.

What employers are asked to cover

30 topics across 7 areas. A brief we send every employer beforehand. 5 apply to almost any business; the rest only in a particular case.

Every hiring decision is the employer's. GullyFuture does not promise interviews or jobs.

Students' Own QuestionsPrepared in advance, so they are worth answering.4
  • What would you tell a fresher in their first month?
  • Does my college or my percentage matter?
  • Is a gap year or a backlog a problem?
  • What should I learn in the next three months?
The Ground RulesAgreed with every employer before they attend.4
  • No fees or deposits asked of students
  • No selling of paid courses or training
  • No collecting student details without consent
  • No promises of jobs on the day

Who we invite

  • Employers who hire freshers or interns
  • Smaller local businesses as well as larger companies
  • HR professionals and hiring managers
  • Where possible, a recent joiner who can describe their first year

How students prepare

  • Read about each employer before the session
  • Prepare two questions each
  • Bring an updated resume, in case an opening is shared
  • Decide which roles they want to hear most about

How the session runs

Two to four employers, depending on who is available for the college's date and field. Each describes their roles and selection process, followed by questions from students, then smaller table conversations where students can talk to the employer closest to their interests. Employers are briefed in advance on the ground rules. Openings, if any are shared, are ones GullyFuture has spoken to the employer about and checked; applications go directly to the employer or are passed on with the student's consent.

What your students leave with

  • What a range of entry-level roles involves day to day
  • How each employer's selection process actually runs
  • What employers look for in a fresher, and what makes them reject one
  • Answers to the questions students rarely get to ask
  • Details of any genuine openings employers choose to share
  • A clearer idea of which roles to prepare for
