Your students have more to show than their resumes suggest

Projects, internships, hackathons, GitHub work and real technical learning — presented as a list of courses and a wall of technologies nobody can question them on. This session fixes the presentation, and points resume, LinkedIn and portfolio at one target role instead of three different ones.

A resume is more than a list of courses and skills.

Most student resumes look alike: education, a long list of technologies, certifications, a generic objective, and projects with almost no explanation. A recruiter is trying to answer one question — what can this student actually do? — and that format makes it hard.

The fix is not decoration. It is evidence, and consistency: the resume, the LinkedIn profile and the GitHub account should tell one story about one target role, and none of them should claim more than the student can defend in an interview.

A short list of credible skills beats a long one you cannot defend.

Instead of “Student Management System — Java, MySQL”, help the reader understand the work.

A project entry should give the interviewer a reason to ask more.

Most college projects are team projects, which is fine. The interviewer will still ask what you personally worked on.

A clear photograph, and a headline that communicates direction. For example: “Computer Science Student | Exploring Backend Development | Java & SQL”, or “Electronics Engineering Student | Embedded Systems | IoT Projects”.

Keep it accurate. An inflated headline is the easiest thing in the world to test.

Simple and believable beats impressive and vague.

Instead of “I know React”, show “built a small application using React to solve…”.

You do not need to post daily. You need to use it deliberately.

“Hi sir, please give me job” fails. Something like this works: “I attended your session on cloud engineering today. Your explanation of how junior engineers work with production systems was useful. I am learning AWS and would like to follow your work here.”

A professional relationship starts with a useful, respectful conversation.

Common resume mistakes

  • Listing too many skills — if you cannot answer basic questions on it, reconsider whether it belongs
  • Generic objectives — “seeking a challenging position in a reputed organisation” says nothing
  • Copy-pasted project descriptions that do not reflect your actual work
  • Too much information — a resume is not a biography
  • Spelling and formatting errors
  • One resume sent to every role, when a developer and an analyst need different emphasis

A recruiter explains how fresher profiles are actually reviewed. Students then restructure skills, projects, internships and achievements, and rework their LinkedIn headline, About section and featured work. A few real student resumes and profiles are reviewed live with practical feedback. Everyone leaves with a written checklist of their own changes.
